I wanted to find a way to channel these two personal passions- innovation & healthcare- in a way that would help underserved families in India and other developing countries.
Sunil Wadhwani co-founded and was Chairman and CEO of IGATE Corporation, which provided a broad range of Information Technology services. With over 34,000 employees on four continents, iGATE was ranked among the world’s leading consulting firms. In July 2015, iGATE was sold to Cap Gemini of France for over $4 billion. Under Sunil’s leadership as CEO, the Company was listed four times in Inc. Magazine’s ranking of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. It was also named among the “Top 100 Hot Growth” companies by Business Week and among the “Technology Fast 50” by Deloitte and Touche.
In addition to iGATE, Sunil is the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Mastech Digital Corporation (MHH), a provider of high-value information technology services and digital solutions. Mastech is a publicly-traded company with over 1,000 employees.
Sunil established the Wadhwani Institute for Sustainable Healthcare (WISH Foundation) in India in 2014. WISH has developed a unique Public Private Partnership (PPP)-driven, innovation-led model for transforming the primary healthcare system in the lowest income areas in India and other developing countries. This approach brings together the government, “best-in-class” private sector healthcare partners, and the most promising healthcare innovators. WISH is managing over 300 health centers in some of the poorest areas in India using this model and the initial results have been remarkable.
The strategic approaches of WISH include:
• Mining of promising innovations: to build a repository of high impact healthcare innovations and scale up frameworks through ongoing mapping and partnerships. WISH has developed an open source database of 165
Inclusive Business Models of Healthcare in India and Bangladesh in partnership developed with World Bank International Finance Corporation in 2014 and a database of 281 public sector innovations in India
developed through a high level Advisory Group.
• Acceleration of promising innovations to be scale ready: to curate innovations and enterprises through funding, mentoring and shared value platforms. WISH partners with Millennium Alliance, Intellecap, Villgrow,
DLabs, Indian School of Business to provide the management support to innovators and models.
• On ground demonstration of scalable innovations: at test beds developed within public health service delivery system. WISH has signed a 5-year MoU with the Government of Rajasthan to strengthen primary
healthcare delivery system.
• Replication and scaling up of successful innovations: by building a healthcare ecosystem and knowledge hub for stakeholders to connect for impact acceleration.
